Today I am grateful for microwaves.
Maybe some of my readers remember a time before the microwave was commonplace, when it was as rare as a DVD player in 1995. I do not, though my mom and I did not have a microwave in our residence until I was about 10 years old. When I moved to Oklahoma, I lived for two or three months without a microwave, and it was fine. Then a friend gave me an old microwave of theirs and my life changed.
I had no such lack-of-microwave problems when I moved to Portland. Now I make oatmeal every day in my microwave. ¼ cup of oatmeal, equal water, microwave for one minute.
